Elysium Announces Implementation of CADportal at Hi-Tech Mold and Engineering

Company Adopts Innovative Server-Based CADportal as its MCAD Translator

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 13, 2005 - Elysium Inc., a leading global provider of multi-CAD enabling software, today announced that Hi-Tech Mold and Engineering, a specialty designer and builder of production and prototype molds for the plastics industry, has established CADportal software as its MCAD translation solution. Elysium's CADportal will enable the company to quickly exchange mold designs with customers and subcontractors regardless of native CAD system format.

CADportal translates complex three-dimensional data through a grid-computing model and utilizes a web interface to the server to control translation. CADportal allows Hi-Tech Mold and Engineering to accept almost any 3D-format files from customers directly into its production workflow. Likewise, outsourced 3D data can be converted to match the specific CAD system of its subcontractors.

Elysium's CADportal solves the interoperability problem which has plagued the mechanical design engineering and manufacturing industry for decades. In the past, the diversity of MCAD file formats has required companies to acquire multiple CAD software, and translation tools, or services, to be compatible with subcontractors and customers. To share CAD files in this situation, the data had to go through a lengthy round of format conversions before the work could continue. Furthermore, these conversions would often be prone to error and additional time was lost in the repair of this erroneous data. CADportal solves this problem through the innovative, server-based technology it provides.

CADportal's technology is speeding new files into Hi-Tech Mold's workflow with greater data reliability, according to the firm’s Information Technology Manager, Tom Madden. Translation jobs are sent to the CADportal queue on Hi-Tech's server, where the files are automatically formatted into CATIA. Since the company receives 15 to 30 design files from customers each day – ranging in brands from UGS NX to AutoCAD -- Madden has already seen substantial saving in labor costs just six months after introduction.

"One customer-supplied data file can manually take an average 60 minutes to process from start to finish…with no quality checks on the data," says Madden. "With the Elysium CADportal system in place, we are seeing the average time cut to under 30 minutes, while also gaining quality checks for downstream processes."

The data checks inherent in CADportal's processing results in a "100 percent improvement," of data quality, according to Madden. Previously, conversion errors might not be noticed until well into the production stage when Hi-Tech's computer numeric controlled (CNC) manufacturing tools upload the CAD information. Flawed conversions often meant interruptions and repeated processes in mold fabrication, problems that are now avoidable with the cleaner data output of CADportal.

Elysium's software features "healing" methods which can discern the subtle differences between CAD formats which can result in data translation errors. Instead of depending on generic standards, Elysium’s Data Exchange Kernel executes advanced healing and repair during the translation process by making use of the specific desired result. This kernel, based on more than 20 years of experience, forms the basis of CADportal's accurate and efficient translations.

"The Hi-Tech implementation is our latest emphasis on overall process quality via CAD Data Translation," remarks Ken Tashiro, COO and vice president of Elysium. "In the past, end-users would inform us of success in data translation – the accuracy in manufacturing data being translated. Now we are hearing, not of just our mathematical success, but more importantly, an overall improvement of quality for all downstream design, analysis, and manufacturing processes."
